Sea Monkey Diary

I've started a new batch of Monkeys at work. This time I have just about every packet you can buy; Packets 1, 2 and 3 as well as Red-Magic Sea-Monkey Vitamins, Gro-Quickly Growth Stimulator, Banana Treat, Plasma III, (which used to be Packet 4) and Cupid's Arrow Sea-Monkey Mating Powder (yes, you read that right) so this should be the best batch ever and I'll have plenty to blog about.

I started today with Packet 1, Water Purifier. I skipped the 24 hour waiting period. (Consider this a BIG spoiler alert) After reading the official patent for Sea Monkeys I realized that the wait is part of the "magic" trick. Now, I love a good magic trick SO if I'm hatchin' a batch with kids I'll wait the 24 hours, but for now, I gave the water purifier a few minutes and then dumped in packet two. It's still a bit cold here so we didn't actually see any little white dots twirling about until about 48 hours later.

I'm aerating the tank every day and my little white dots are growing. I'll feed them for the first time on Monday March 10th.

Great idea to keep a diary. I'm curious, which tank are you using for this colony?

Excellent question. I'm using a standard blue Ocean Zoo aquarium with a vented lid. I'll put up a picture soon of it perched on my desk at work.

Do you have to wait 24 hours to put the second packet in? I'm curious because I've gotten different views and I'm starting to get anxious.

No, you don't have to wait the 24 hours actually. But it will likely be 24 hours until you SEE the Sea Monkeys.
Stop reading now if you don't want the SPOILER!

There are some eggs in package one and they hatch right away. 24 hours later they're big enough to see and the package 2 has some more eggs plus a blue dye. Blue dye plus 24 hour old sea monkeys = the illusion of instant life.
I mean, you really did get "instant life" you just couldn't really instantly see it. :D

so the water doesnt really need a purifier? since its just eggs

I never said it was "just" eggs. There are some eggs in the pack but there is also salt which the little guys most definitely need and some dechlor and other water conditioners.

i have a 1/2 gallon tank that i can't see thru because of the blue die. i assume this is why the original tanks made for sea monkey's are so narrow. is there a way to grow a thriving sea monkey world without the blue die? if so, will it have any adverse effects on my sea monkey's?

It has been 17 hours since i put the water purifier in. Does that mean i can put the eggs in right now? Please answer!!

This is my fourth batch of sea monkey, and they are just not working. I'm really hurt and disappointed in this product.

I really don't know what to do.
